We first began breeding Akbash Dogs in 1985, making us one of the foundation breeders in North America. We raise our dogs with family and livestock to preserve their working instincts as farm and family guardians. Our dogs are protective but not aggressive. We believe that, while this breed is a working breed, they make very good family companions when placed in the right homes.

By raising puppies whose ancestors we have bred and raised for generations, we know a great deal about their strengths and weaknesses. Any new lines, such as those imported from Turkey, are carefully evaluated. Although our dogs are raised as working guardians, they are carefully screened for disposition and genetic problems.
Our buyers are people who understand that the more effort they put into raising their young dog in the right way, the more they benefit from it. The breed is very intelligent and not for someone who is looking for a "couch companion." We like prospective owners to have had experience with other large dogs -- either shepherds, mastiffs, or other livestock guarding breeds. The Akbash Dog is amazingly adaptable to rural or even urban environments given the right owner who understands the basic needs of the breed. A secure fenced area where the young dog can exercise and just "be" is a requirement. Akbash Dogs can do well in in families with other pets, even other dogs , when the other breeds are of the opposite gender and of a non-dominant breed.
We have had very successful owners in big city suburbs and in remote rural areas. One key to success is remembering that the Turkish native breeds, Akbash and Kangal Dog, are typically unfriendly to stray dogs, something that we ask our owners to keep in mind. This means repeated socialization for dogs that are going to dog parks (or doggy day care, as some of our dogs do!) or being aware of the fact that your Akbash Dog may regard any stray/strange dog entering your property as a potential predator. They are also usually watchful of, but not aggressive toward, strange humans.
