5 out of 5 stars Just as promised - even my jerk of a cat couldn't get in   November 19, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I searched amazon.com and ended up selecting this feeder, probably about a year ago.
My cat has tried his hardest to get in and has been unable.
Otherwise, it was worked exactly as promised. I still haven't had to change the batteries, which is wonderful.
I have it set for 5am every day and now my cat doesn't wake me up by crying or politely nibbling on my thighs.
It's also great for when I leave for the weekend.
Yay!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product for My Cat!   November 1, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I purchased this product three weeks ago - and so far I have nothing to say but great things. I am a night person - but Taz is a morning kitty. 5 hours of sleep a night was not enough! I found this product to be pretty sturdy, reliable, and nothing short of a miracle. I was concerned about the timer, as in previous reviews was listed as basic, but this was not the case; possibly it is a new feature. You are able to set the clock, and then set the exact times for each of the feedings (which I have set for 6AM each morning). The first morning Taz was wary of the device, and wouldn't go up to it. I had to make a trail of the dry food to the feeder. That was all he needed. Every morning since, he hears the feeder rotate, and dives off the bed. I no longer wake up at 6AM. He has not tried to get to the food inside, and I can't see how he could ever open it, as it takes two hands. For cat lovers who like to sleep, this is the product for you!

1 out of 5 stars My cat figured it out in two weeks, now it's useless   October 22, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

When we first got this, we loved it. It allowed us to feed our diabetic cat every 6 hours without getting up in the middle of the night. He learned to launch off the bed like a rocket when he heard "The Autmatic Food God" rotate noisily to dispense the manna of catfood at the appropriate time. But after only a few weeks, he figured out that he could smell the food in it, and pushed on the current portion of the bowl to advance it to the next position. And then the next, and the next... and he really pigged out on four meals!! After that, it was useless.

It has two other drawbacks, too. The plastic bowl irritated his feline acne. Our vet says that many plastic bowls do that, and recommends that cats be fed only out of stainless steel or china. Why don't pet food bowl manufacturers consider this, since it is a common problem? And it doesn't have ice packs to keep canned food cool. It would dry and harden before the next meal needed to be served.

All in all, this was a very expensive disappointment.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute Lifesaver!!!!   October 15, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

We absolutely LOVE this product, even with its flaws. I bought this over a year ago and its been a lifesaver for my cat!!!

Pros:
*** food tray is plastic and dishwasher safe
*** its super easy to operate
*** batteries have lasted 14 months and counting
*** great for over night trips
*** great for sleeping in on Saturdays
*** serious reduction in begging from my cat

Cons:
***NOT for wet food! There is no way of keeping it cool and that is unsanitary.
*** It's plastic! Bad if your cat has chin acne.
*** I could see how a couple of REALLY cleaver pets could figure out how to push the dish forward on a lucky day. But its not easy and there is built in resistance. I sincerely doubt the vast majority of pets would ever figure it out.

My experience: Our oldest cat is on a restricted weight management prescription diet. Because she hoards all of her food at once, its best to feed her 3-5 times throughout the day to keep her metabolism active. We set it for 1/2 an hour before we get up in the morning, so she not waking us up asking for food; and 2 more times while I'm at work. Because she knows it will feed her at the same time everyday, she rarely begs us for food in the mornings and afternoons anymore. I still have the pleasure of manually feeding her twice more in the evenings :-) and she still begs a little then. Its also great for when we go away over night or when were out late in the evening because I don't have to worry about her starving the whole time. The alternative before was to set out a big dish of food which she would entirely eat immediately. The only dislike for this product is that it is plastic. I've had to stop using it twice, for a couple of days at a time, when her chin acne flared up.
PSA: The "OM" prescription diet food was the single most important factor in helping my cat loose 25% of her body weight in just over a year. Many factors, including this pet dish, helped us help her. This or similar quality diet pet food can only be purchased with a prescription from a vet.

5 out of 5 stars My cat and I love it!   September 17, 2008
The cat lost weight, I keep sanity while working late/odd hours. It's been perfectly reliable. I've had it for well over a year and have not yet changed batteries. I'm getting one for my boyfriend's fat cat! I wish it had more openings, but it's so reliable, I won't try another brand.
