Product Description
Use it to trim out the undercoat, trim out dead hair, unravel & demat the coat. The Coat King cuts, but is better used to strip & comb out all of the dead hair. Ergonomic, extra-long, balanced wooden handle. The coarse & medium strippers are used for preparing the coat & the extra-fine is used for grooming heavy coats & is most suitable for all kinds of Spaniels & shaggy coats.

5 out of 5 stars Good job on undercoat   December 27, 2008
I don't even have a terror, I mean, ehem, terrier, but a spaniel. I run this through his back and the fronts of his legs to pull out some of the undercoat to help prevent matting and to make the hair lay flat. ECS breeders use them on show grooms. I keep my dog in a pet clip now (show groom too hard and no good for hiking) but still like to thin out the undercoat a bit to prevent matting. This works like a charm! You'll still have some undercoat remaining, but that is okay since it is, after all, your dog's insulation against heat and cold.
If you OVERUSE this - you WILL cut top coat and that is a bad thing for a number of breeds. Used properly, however, this works great!

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   July 17, 2008
I love this stripper. I have smooth collies and border collies. This is able to strip the undercoat out of the smooth collies like a dream. It also works on the longer coats of the border collies very well.

It pulls out undercoat without damaging the outer coat. Great for that spring blowout!

5 out of 5 stars Very Easy   June 30, 2008
I was shown this stripping tool and decided to purchase one. We have two Cairn terriers and it takes a long to to hand strip. With this tool it takes less time and is much easier on the pet. They look great.

I have a Westie, and wanted to strip her instead of clipping for many reasons. I tried by hand, and could not do it. A little research turned up the Mars Coat King, and it is AMAZING! I will never again be without one of these. It did more in 5 minutes than I could do in an hour with my hand.

We have two 5-year-old cairn terriers who have always been clipped. In the last year or so I've been doing it myself because most groomers don't know how to clip cairns, but it's such a long process and neither dog enjoyed it. Then I read online that cairns are supposed to be hand-stripped rather than clipped to keep their coats healthy, but that hand-stripping is difficult to learn and very expensive to have done professionally (if you can find someone to do it).

Fortunately I noticed that many cairn owners who don't show their dogs were praising something called a Mars Coat King in lieu of hand-stripping their pets, so I investigated and decided to try it. What a difference! You simply rake the dog's coat with this tool, and all the dead hair comes out. There's very little pulling, about the same amount as brushing. In fact both dogs yawned and laid down after a while while I raked them! In just an hour I had a pile of hair from both dogs that equaled the amount I usually clip off them -- but this was dead hair, roots and all, that NEEDED to come off. And it's easy and fast compared to using the clippers.

This tool can cut hair depending on how you use it, but it's best for pulling dead hair (or "stripping"). Our two look as if they've been clipped, but without the hassle and heartache. They just need a little scissor trim around the feet, ears, rump and whiskers to finish them off.

I bought the MCK 10 blade medium and also the MCK 16 blade fine. The 10 blade works the best on my two, even though the boy has medium coarse hair and the girl has fine hair.

If you have a terrier, especially a cairn, I can't recommend the Mars Coat King enough. Treat yourself and your furry friend to this wonderful product! You might never need to break out the clippers or visit a groomer again.
