Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
When you buy a bunch of fresh herbs at the market, what do you do? The story is usually the same: you use some and leave the rest in the fridge to wilt away. This innovative tool is a true herbal remedy, prolonging the life of herbs for up to three weeks. One-year warranty.

4 out of 5 stars Prepara Herb Savor   January 6, 2009
Prepara Herb Savor - This product does extend the life of fresh herbs and takes very little space in the refridgerator. Given the size and price of the bundles of fresh herbs commonly available this appears to be a cost effective product.

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Impressed   October 16, 2008
I wasn't expecting to be impressed by this little gadget, thinking it'd end up in the back of a cupboard somewhere. But we bought fresh herbs for spaghetti sauce last month and of the leftovers, one type got put in the Herb Savor, another left in the package in the refrigerator.

The ones left in the original package were thrown out - all dried up - nearly 2 weeks ago. The ones in the Herb Savor still look great. Guess it's handier than I expected.

4 out of 5 stars Long life for fresh herbs, but a little small   October 16, 2008
The Herb Savor really does a fantastic job preserving fresh herbs in the fridge. As a caveat, I have a commercial fridge & everything seems to keep longer in it than in a regular residental fridge. To get an accurate comparison, I did a side-by-side test in the fridge using a glass of water, a sealed plastic bag, and the Herb Savor, using fresh flatleaf parsley. The parsley in the plastic bag and the glass of water each lasted for about 10 days (longer than I expected, frankly); the parsley in the Herb Savor was still dark green, crisp & flavorful A MONTH LATER. Dude. I don't know how long it would have held out because I needed it for a recipe. (And I admit that I completely forgot to refill it, so that month of life happened without any additional water beyond the first fill-up.)

Now, flatleaf parsley isn't the most perishable of herbs (I'll test it next with cilantro, which almost always goes south before I have a chance to finish a bu nch).

The unit is basically a perforated metal tray with a plastic case that forms an upright cage that rests in the water reservoir. The reservior has a plug that allows it to be refilled without removing it from the shelf. The reservoir is weighted, and I had no issues with it tipping, even on the widely-spaced wire shelves of my commercial fridge.

It's attractive, nicely weighted, easy to clean, and the exact size of those little pods of herbs you get at the grocery store.

My only complaint is that it's too small for herbs that come in larger bunches, like cilantro, or herbs you might get from the farmer's market or CSA. If you only use the grocery store pods, it's genius & definitely a 5-star product.

5 out of 5 stars Great gadget that works   September 18, 2008

I was skeptical when I ordered this product. It didn't seem revolutionary to me. I was wrong. The herb savor does a much better job at keeping my herbs fresher longer.

Traditionally I had washed and dried fresh herbs, wrapped them in paper towels, and stored them in plastic bags i nteh veggie drawer. Trying to keep them fresh in a small container of water on one of the shelves always ensure a soaking wet fridge. By using a closed system that does not tip over when stored in the refrigerator door, both problems were solved - fresh herbs 2 weeks after purchase and dry shelves.

I divided a bunch of cilantro into two sections and sored half in the Herb Saver and half as usual. The bunch in the veggie draer was rotten within a week while the one in the Saver was still fresh. I'm sold.

My only issue is the size of the unit. Since my favorite herb is cilantro, which is quite long, I have to trim the stems before inserting. Also, the bunch is thick, making it difficult to close the unit. Other than that, I'm happy. I may buy a second one for other herbs.

4 out of 5 stars Effective herb keeper; somewhat small capacity   September 18, 2008

This is an attractive device that fits easily in the door of the refrigerator. The bottom is a heavy ceramic with rubberized base so that it doesn't tip easily. I experimented with a bunch of cilantro, which I never seem able to use up before it turns to slime.

The bunch in the Herb Savor stayed relatively fresh for about 3 weeks before beginning to get slimy bits (only because some bits were not touching the water). My cilantro in a plastic bag lasted about a week and a half. Pretty good, I'd say.

The only disadvantage would be the size. It was too small for my standard grocery store purchased bunch of cilantro, which I had to split in half. This is the primary herb that I purchase; others I grow or use dried. Smaller amounts from the garden might stay fresh in here, particularly ones that go to seed easily, or it might be easier to pick as needed. Those who purchase more expensive fresh herbs in the supermarket may find it more useful than myself.
